Today is the first day of a 24-day period in which Debra is a year older than I am, a period in which I can affectionately refer to her as “the old lady” and get away with it.
I normally refrain from posting entries of a personal nature here, but this one is long overdue. Deb and I have been through the ups and downs that all married people experience over the years, but this past year has been a particularly difficult one for us. The fact that our marriage has survived it is a testament to what a truly incredible woman Debra is. So, I just wanted to take this opportunity to publicly proclaim my love, admiration, and gratitude for this wonderful woman I am lucky enough to call my wife. She’s always been there for me. From the early days when she worked to pay the bills while I spent my days on this weird “free software” thing, a period of time when everyone else thought I was off my rocker and tilting at windmills; to more recent times, when I’ve moved her away from family in pursuit of my dreams, followed those dreams into financially treacherous waters, and even put our very love for each other to the test; she has always believed in me and supported me when others did not.
Happy birthday, Debo. I love you. May this next year be better than the last, and may it be the first in a series of many happy years to come..

I’m really happy to read that. Really. Congratulations to both of you. I wish to write the same words you just wrote some day.
